Small Talk Banner

The Small Talk Newsletter was originally published aboard the USS Ernest G. Small DD-838 commencing 30 September, 1945. The first issue was titled “Mighty Small”. The second issue, published 7 October, 1945 was renamed “Small Talk” and all subsequent issues bore that masthead. When fully restored, there will be a total of 28 Small Talk issues from the period commencing 30 September, 1945 and ending on 23 June, 1946.

Small Talk was resurrected in 1994 when USS Ernest G. Small shipmates contracted Military Locators & Reunion Services to facilitate annual Shipmate Reunions. ML&RS published the Small Talk, quarterly, from March, 1994 until August, 2009. The shipmates of the USS Ernest G. Small Association voted to organize and execute all future reunions in September, 2009. Small Talk was published by shipmates under a new Masthead. The first new issue was published the first issue in November, 2009.

Shipmates, for those who remember him, Arnold Dyre passed away recently. He was on the Small in 1968 to his ears in the Navy. He was proud of his time on her and his shipmates.
